Dress the dude in a toga and he's still not someone you'd want to fu(k with. The character is iconic enough regardless of the costume in my opinion.
But then I've always loved the relative simplicity of the design personally.

Yikes! I thought it was a zombie Invincible until I looked at it. When and why did comics become so bloodthirsty? Of course if it's after a "battle" it's more understandable.
